Item The Impact of Working Capital Management on Firms’ Profitability (In Case of Manufacturing Share Companies in Addis Ababa)(wolkite universty, 2019-10) Amra MohammedThe purpose of this study is to investigate the impact of working capital management on firms’ profitability. The study aims to examine the statistical significance between firms’ working capital management and profitability. In light of this objective, the study adopted quantitative method of research approach to test a series research hypothesis. Specifically, the study used survey of documentary analysis of companies audited financial statements. Stratified sampling design was employed based on nature and turnover of companies. Then companies were selected based on simple random sampling method from each stratum to avoid biases and represent firms from each sub classification (stratum) within manufacturing companies. Consequently, the study selected a sample of thirteen (13) companies for the period of five years (2013-2017) with the total of 65 observations. Data was then analyzed on quantitative basis using correlation and multiple regression analysis. The results showed that there is significant positive relationship between profitability and working capital management. It means that, companies’ managers can create profits or value for their companies and shareholders by handling correctly the cash conversion cycle and keeping each different component of working capital to a possible optimum level. The researcher found that there is an insignificant negative relationship between Cash conversion cycle and profitability. Moreover, the study finds that there is significance positive relationship between Average payable period and firm profitability. Finally, the study will suggest about management of manufacturing firms made under study can create value for the shareholders as well to make the firms performance well by reducing: the net time interval between actual cash expenditures on a firm’s purchase of productive resources and the ultimate recovery of cash receipts from product sales.Item ROLE OF AGRICULTURAL INPUT CREDIT ON PRODUCTIVITY OF MAIZE: THE CASE OF KUYU WOREDA(wolkite universty, 2019-10) ASTER SOLOMONAgriculture is the largest sector in the Ethiopian economy approximately employing 85% of the country’s population. Government of Ethiopia is currently paying attention in helping farmers. It provides different incentives like credit and training. Credit plays crucial role in increasing maize production. Despite its importance, farmers face many challenges in utilization of credit for maize production. As the study was intended to find out factors affecting maize production and role of credit in maize production, in North shewa, Kuyu district, different factors found significant. The study has used simple random sampling in identifying sample respondents. Linear multiple regression analysis was used in the study. Ten variables were included in to the regression analysis of the study; four variables become significant. Family size, Land size, fertilizer and Sex of house hold become significant. This indicates agriculture is becoming the main sector in absorbing large number of labor. Now days, no one can expand land size, but there is duty of all bodies to take care of land uses. As credit is playing great role in maize production, it has to be given attention in expanding credit services for the community. There are so many factors hindering farmers from credit utilization, government should create environment that enables farmers to utilize credit according to the intention. Therefore the government better to do expand the farmer training center and which provide know how to the farmers about the role of inputs and how to use them in a best way.Item ASSESSMENT OF CORRUPTION PRACTICES IN THE PUBLIC SECTORS: A CASE STUDY OF GUBRE SUB-CITY MUNICIPALITY IN WOLKITE TOWN, GURAGHE ZONE, SNNPRS.(wolkite universty, 2019-09) ZEYAD JEMAL; ZELEKE BUZUNEH; ALEMNESH MEZHAhe World Bank Study in Ethiopia found that corruption is the most challenging problem that all households face after poverty (WB, 2005) Corruption causes major misallocation of scarce resources. Instead of meeting basic needs such as food, health and education, resources are sometimes used to finance purely prestige projects with no economic value The study was designed to assess the corruption practices in the public sectors case study of Gubrie sub city, of Wolkite town, Gurage zone, SNNPRS. In view of meeting this objective, it utilized a descriptive case study design and mixed research approach to collect and analyze data. Representative samples were selected using both random and non-random sampling methods to cover 66 respondents engaged in different occupation in three selected sub- city. Questionnaire and key informant interview were used as tools of data collection. Data obtained via survey questionnaire was analyzed using descriptive statistical analysis. Data collected by key informant interviews was analyzed by description and method of triangulation. The findings of the study revealed that the cause of corruption in public sectors reforms, absences of strong institution that combat corrupting, lack of good governance low level of ,salaries of workers and the desire of the workers became a wealth person with a short period of time and the short ways. the mechanism that taken by the institutions in the study area to combat corruption are increasing the awareness of local people, the increase accountability and transparency between government institution and local people.Item HOUSHOLD WILLINGNESS TO PAY FOR IMPROVED SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT SERVICE IN CASE OF AMBO TOWN(wolkite universty, 2019-09) BAYISA DABAREThe provision of solid waste management service has always been the major environmental problem for the town of Ambo. The introduction of service charges in the area of solid waste management is getting much attention due to continuous financial shortage of the town municipality to provide this service at an acceptable level. The pricing of this service is believed to not bring efficiency and sustainability in this area. In line with this, this study was undertaken to examine the extent of solid waste management service problem and households’ willingness to pay for improved solid waste management services. For this 100 sample selected households were used. The probit models are used for the empirical analysis. The study found that among the variables such as household age, weekly solid waste generation, education level, distance from dump area, income, house ownership and family size of households are affect the willingness to pay for improved solid waste management service statistically significantly. The other affects statistically insignificantly. In fact from those variables such as household age, education level, sex, marital status, house ownership and household incomes are positively affect WTP. The remaining is negatively affecting WTP.Item DETERMINANTS OF FERTILIZER USE OF CROP PRODUCTION ON SMALL HOUSEHOOLD FARMER (IN CASE OF HIDEBU ABOOTE WOREDA)(wolkite universty, 2019-09) AYELE YAZEWThe aim of this study is to examine the determinant of fertilizer use on crop production by small holder farmers in case of hidabu abote woreda. Data for this study collected from primary data in 2010 cropping season. A simple random sampling is applied to select 88 samples which include both adopter and non-adopter in the selected kebeles. Both descriptive and inferential statistics were used to describe socio economic and institutional characteristics of the respondent through percentage in both fertilizers adopted and non- fertilizer adopted farmers. OLS model was employed to identify determinant of fertilizer application on crop production was regressed against eight explanatory variables so as to identify the determinant fertilizers application on crop production by small holder farmers. Regression result revealed that six explanatory variable such as credit access and safety net positively influenced and statistically insignificant variables. Whereas six variables I.e. family size, education level, farm size, number of oxen , number of livestock and extension service are statistically significant at 1, 5and 10percent. Both primary and secondary data was collected. The primary data was collected through distributing questionnaires to customers and sales persons. In addition, interview with manager was conducted. Whereas secondary data analyses have been also be made based on such source as factory records, internet, journals, and books. The population of the study mainly focuses on customers, the sales persons and the manager of Amru hairu flour factory. The researcher use convenience, non-probability sampling approach and selects a total number of 40 customers and by using census sampling technique the researcher selects all the 2 sales persons of Amru hairu flour factory. The major findings were that the sales person’s serves with passion, sales persons are good in their social behavior and first appearance to the prospects, the factory is weak regarding to handling customer’s objections about the product of the factory and it is also found that the sales force is not completely equipped with all the necessary salesmanship skill. Based on the major findings some recommendation was made that are the factory have to concentrate their product quality and must select the products that are defective and non defective before they reach to customers and the factory have to invest and use their resource to keep the sales force happy and to must motivate its sales force by using tools of motivation like promotion and participation. The purposes of assessment are to assess the financial management practice of NGO in Gurage zone. A convenient sampling technique is used to select the NGO. This research therefore advances the frontiers of knowledge by comparatively analyzing the financial management practice of two NGO; world vision and compassion organization. Descriptive method of assessment was conducted and data were collected by applying purposive sampling . Questionnaires used to collect data for the study. The major findings were: lack of budget approval by board, common cost allocation system, records keeping for gifts in kind items, cash forecast preparation, finance staff participation in budget preparation and review, and concentration on limited projects and sources of fund, weakness in standardized financial statement preparation and delay in reporting among others. Finally, the researcher recommended: as means to discharge responsibility & accountability and to show service giving efforts, operational efficiency and effectiveness to contribution to the development endeavor of the country, they should establish a well-organized financial management systems: budget management, accounts record keeping and reporting. The study also recommended that is advisable that the owner s of NGO avail themselves with the various training programs: better to engaged in financial planning, analysis, and control in order to compare their financial plan with performance: and also maintain professional accountants so as keep complete accounting recordsItem Household’s willingness to pay for improved water supply service in The case of Harbu chulule town.(wolkite universty, 2019-09) Alemu IdaeThis paper tried to examine and analyze the households’ willingness to pay for improved water supply services in Town areas of Ethiopia, Harbu chulule Town as a case study. This study therefore, aims to estimate the amount that households would be willing to pay for improved water supply services and identify the potential factors affecting their Willingness to pay for improved water supply service in Harbu chulul Town Contingent valuation Method was used to examine the determinants of willingness to pay. A total 86 sample households were interviewed during the survey. The survey result showed that, if the water Town office provide improved water supply, more than 74.71% of households’ were willing and able to pay for the service at a price more than a cost recovery tariff rate. ,, result showed that sex of the household, income of households, educational level of household, reliability of existing water supply service and bid price were significantly affecting WTP for improved water services in the Thus if the proposed water improvement scheme is implemented, in addition to satisfying the water needs of the households, the Town utility management can collect more revenue from the sale of improved water. The CV survey results also show that the mean WTP of households for the proposed improved water service is between 31.26 cents and 51.51 cents per jerry can depending on the method used. Therefore, policy makers need to take in to consideration these socio-economic and demographic factors and some other attributes of water in designing the improved water supply system of the Town.Item ASSESSING THE PRACTICE OF RISK MANAGEMENT IN CASE OF COMMERCIAL BANK OF ETHIOPIA WOLKITE BRANCH(wolkite universty, 2019-09) AEMIRO BAWOKEThe senior essay on the risk management practice was conducted on commercial bank of Ethiopia at Wolkite branch. The researcher stated the statement of the problem both general and specific objectives and significance of the study. The researcher used descriptive data analysis method. To conduct the research, the researcher employed use primary data was collected through questioner on risk management practice. The data collected was analyzed using percentage and presented in tabular form base on identifiable problems. By increasing the independent variables researcher try to reduce error and the result were likely to be more accurate and precise. The financial performance would be measured by use of return on asset. The study also focused on financial risk as independent variable and more result the relationship between risk management and financial performance in commercial bank of Ethiopia. The researcher recommended that it was a high time for the bank to adopt a contemporary, proactive and decentralization risk management system if it tends to survive the thunders of local composition, the flood of globalization and the tremble of our dynamic market and economic condition.
