Abstract
Soil conservation plays a crucial role in sustaining local community livelihoods by preserving
the natural resources essential for agriculture and overall environmental health. The one
significant gap is the lack of awareness and education among community members regarding the
benefits of soil conservation, as in the case of Gindeberet woreda. The researchers tried to
assess the effect of soil conservation on local community livelihoods in Gormana Erga Kebele.
The general objective of the study was to assess the effect of soil conservation on local
community livelihood in Gindeberet woreda in the case of Gormana Erga Kebele. The research
approach employed by the researchers in this study is a mixed-methods approach. The
researchers selected 78 households from the total of 780 households in Goromana Erga Kebele
for the sample size of the study on the effect of soil conservation on local community livelihood
in Goromana Erga Kebele by using simple random sampling techniques. The major findings
were Some community members actively participate in soil conservation efforts, while others
may need more awareness and education about its benefits. However, some areas lack proper
implementation of these practices due to resource constraints or a lack of knowledge. Soil
conservation positively impacts livelihoods in several ways. The researchers finally
recommended that the positive impact of soil conservation on community livelihoods
underscores the need for its sustainable implementation at all levels. Ensuring local
participation and empowerment remains crucial for successful soil conservation and improved
livelihoods.
