Abstract

This project presents the design and simulation of fuzzy logic based an automatic cruise control, which is a system that maintains the speed of a car and keeps a minimum distance to the closest vehicle in front by giving command to the driver. Ride comfort on the highway often interrupted because drivers need to adjust the vehicle speed. Safe distance between vehicles should be maintained is the main reason. The situation of monotonous and high speed will increase the risk of accidents on highway. A device is required by the driver to adjust the vehicle speed during the long distance (cruise) driving on highway without neglecting the safety aspects. The cruise control system is one of the most enduringly popular and important models for control system engineering. The system is very simple to understand and yet the control techniques cover much modern design method, which include modeling the plant and designing fuzzy controller for controlling the vehicle speed. Then dynamics of the system has modeled to provide a transfer function for the plant. Fuzzy controller is designed for linear model. The external disturbances such as road grades considered to stabilizing the system. The fuzzy inference method used in this study is Mamdani. The controller has modeled by using MATLAB/Simulink software and we can get performance characteristics values such as percentage overshoot 0.505%, rise time 396ms, this shows that our system has good characteristic performance
