Abstract
The purpose of this study was to assess the implementation of teachers’ continuous
professional development and to identify the major factors that af ect the ef ective
implementation of Continuous Professional Development in Yaberus Secondary and
Preparatory School. The sampling technique was used in this study such as: simple random
sampling technique and comprehensive sampling technique. The data were collected through
questionnaire and interview. The collected data through close ended questionnaire were
analyzed quantitatively using percentage. Data collected through open ended questionnaire
and interviews were analyzed qualitatively by using word explanation. The findings showed
that the majority of teachers did not involve in the CPD implementation. The major factor
that af ect teachers not to ef ectively implement CPD are shortage of time, lack of adequate
CPD materials, lack of resource, lack of systematic follow up, lack of incentives. Finally the
following recommendations forwarded. The school principal and CPD coordinator should
conduct training for teachers, the zone education of ice should support the school to
implement the CPD program, the school principal should be give suf icient time for this
program, create strong relationship between their CPD stakeholders, Principals and CPD
coordinators should create awareness for teachers, zone education of ice should assign
ef icient and experienced CPD coordinator for the school, and appropriate support and
encouragement (incentives) should be provided by zone education of ice for teachers that will
be engaged ef ectively in the CPD program
