FINGER PRINT BASED VOTING SYSTEM FOR WKU STUDENT UNION

Abstract

Each Universities in Ethiopia has their own student union (SU). This student union’s helps the students and the university community to accelerate the learning and teaching process peacefully.[1] The election of president to this powerful group needs democratic and formal process by which Voters votes their representative during election to lead them. Manual election process has so many drawbacks such as one voter may vote more than one candidate at a time, one voter may add more than one card to one candidate, may unauthorized voter votes, time and resource consuming, data retrieving is hard, insecure and others. So in order to solve the above problem we are developing fingerprint based voting system for WKU student union president vote. In our approach we have two level of security in voting process. The first level is the verification of unique ID number (UID) and password, second level is fingerprint. To develop this system we use iterative software development model and we are developing the system by using python language with Django framework for web part and android studio for android part. When the election problem mention above is solved the expenditure of an election will be decreased, the voting will be democratic and fair and students will vote at everywhere in a given time interval. It will be a facility for the voter who have different problems that affects voter participation on election process due to manual work such as mentioned earlier.
