FACTORS AFFECTING MATERIAL MANAGEMENT OF CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS IN GURAGE ZONE (CASE OF WOLKITE TOWN

Abstract

This study aimed to examine factors that affect material management of construction projects in Gurage zone case of Wolkite town. An explanatory research design was employed in this study. Only primary source of data was used and structured questionnaire was applied to collect the data. The study population includes all permanent workers of contractors, Urban Development & Construction Department officials& experts and client office. The data was collected unanalyzed by the use of- Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS V.20) for inferential & descriptive technique. The findings of the study reveals that, purchasing procedure from the bid up to material kept in the store, budget readiness for material procurement and inventory control have significant relationship on material management of construction projects in the study area at 5% significance level. In this study other variables such as availability of materials, qualified personnel and construction facilities have no significant relation with dependent variable. The study recommended that, the government bodies and contractors improve the proper purchase, budget and inventory level in the study area. For these significant variables have to be responsive for their individual responsibility for better material management of construction projects in the study area
