THE CAUSES AND CONSQUENCE OF DRUG ABUSE AMONG HIGHHER EDUCATION INSTITUTION STUDENTS: THE CASE OF WOLKITE UNIVERSITY

Abstract

The aim of the study was to know the cause and consequence of drug abuse among Wolkite University students. The main objective of the study is to describe the most commonly used drugs among students’ to identify the causes of drug abuse among Wolkite university students, to know or understand the academic impact of drug abuse and to know the social impact of drug abuse. The primary data was collected by using interview from the respondents. In this research qualitative research approach has been used or employed. The researchers have collected the data by using, case study, and in-depth interview. The dean and other administrator of the campus should give enough attention to the problem of drug and its impacts by crating awareness program and providing recreation place. The student council and student policy should control students not to engage on those drugs using activity in the campus in a possible way they can. There must be comprehensive campaign to educate young and youth at a lower level starting from before university, at fresh class, senior level and graduation class about drug abuse and its negative consequence on social relationship their economic cost and their academic performance as general. Regarding to the cause and consequence of drug use among students in wolkite university the factor that initiate to use drugs the influence of peer groups like friends before and after examination time because in the exam time the students faced different type of stress anxiety and depression so to avoid those causes the use drugs by influence of peer groups due to this we can concluded that the factor that initiated to use drugs students influenced by peer groups and the students use drugs frequently to maximize their study and to follow up or sustain their courses The main cause of drug abuse in wolkite university students they used drugs to refresh and elapse their leisure time, to minimize tension depression, anxiety and other factor so in many time the students use drug during holy day to spend their leisure time with happiness, also the students in order to use drug forced by difficulty of exam.
