PRODUCTION OF SHAMPOO FROM AVOCADO SEED OIL

Abstract

The variety of avocado fruit was peeled destined and underwent through oven dryer and has dried at 1100c for 2hrs. After which it was dried, ground and accurately were measured to 25grams per experimental run. The experiment was conducted to formulate shampoo using avocado seed oil as ingredient in the formulation. Hexane solvent extraction method was used to extract oil from avocado seed at 690c for 3(hr.) and particle size of avocado powder (0.5mm) was examined to define optimum avocado seed oil (28% yields). The oil was characterized and its values were calculated as 14.2% and 0% moisture content. In addition to this, acid value, and pH value were recorded as 0.84%, and PH of 7.2 respectively. From 25gm sample powder avocado 7ml of oil was found. The extracted avocado seed oil and 1ml of formaldehyde were kept together in first beaker and Sodium hydroxide and de-mineralized water were kept together in second beaker then heated at 65oc for 20 minutes, then immediately mix using stirrer in order to form a uniform solution. The solution was cooled down at room temperature. The thickness of the solution was adjusted using 3gm fine sodium chloride. Perfume and color were added in to the solution respectively. Finally, citric acid was added to the formulated shampoo to adjust PH to 7.2. Eventually 195.8ml of shampoo was found. The produced shampoo was characterized and calculated it`s physical property such as foam ability and stability, visual inspection, and detergence ability. The other characteristics were good foaming capacity, moderate dirt dispersion, yellowish color, fine and smooth texture nd nature of hair after wash was soft and manageable.
