Abstract

Agriculture is the main economic activity in developing countries like Ethiopia. Even though agriculture is the backbone of the economy; it has not been able to satisfy the food requirement of their people owing to lower productivity. Hence it is very important to understand the factor of agricultural productivity. In line with this, the objective of this study is to examine the factor affecting Bean productivity of smalholder farmers in Amhara regional states in the case ofBerehet Woreda.Todo so, purposive sampling technique was employed to select two Keble(shega and sede’as) from Berehetworeda and respondent households were randomly selected from two kebeles. Hence, 114 households were selected randomly for the study from these sample kebeles, both male and femaleheaded household were included. The necessary data were generated from both primary and secondary sources to answer the research questions. Hence, in trying to examine the problem cross-sectional data collected through questionnaires was the principal means of generating primary data while secondary data were obtained from reviewing various academic research papers, internets and from Agricultural bureau of Berehetwordea and rural development office of Berehetworeda .The paper has employed both descriptive and econometric statistics to analyze the stated objectives. The study founded that educational level, farmsize, number oxen, level of income, manure, and credit accesses has positive and significant effects and age of household has a negative and significant effect on Bean productivity of smallholder farmers in the study area. Therefore, the researcher comes up with some possible recommendation for concerned bodies and policy makers. Accesses of credit has more positive impact on the productivity of bean, farmers should be encouraged in order to use it and government should provide service of credit, education and facilitate it for farmers to faster Bean productivity of smallholder farmers in the study area.
