Abstract

The purpose of this study was to assess the implementation of active learning and to identify the major factors that hinder the effective implementation of active learning method in Yaberus secondary and preparatory school. The sampling technique used in this study were purposive sampling, simple random sampling, and comprehensive sampling technique. The data were collected through questionnaire and interview. The collected data through close ended questionnaire were analyzed quantitatively using percentage, whereas data collected through open ended questionnaire and interview were analyzed qualitatively. The findings should that the majority of teachers employed different active teaching methods such as: group discussion, brainstorming, role playing, questioning and answering, presentation etc. To improve students’ knowledge, skill and attitude. However, the result should that it is difficult to confidentially say active leaning method is implement effectively due to various factors ,such as shortage of time ,low interest of students, lack of adequate material ,possible solutions to the problems sought are suggested. It has been recommended that create awareness, fulfill adequate materials, continues and intensive training should be offered for teachers and students to overcome the challenges and school staff and principals should create conducive environment.
