ASSESSMENTS OF GOOD GOVERNANCE IN THE PUBLIC SECTOR AND ITS IMPLICATION IN THE CASE OF BUTAJIRA TOWN ADMINISTRATION

Abstract

This study was concerned with the assessment of good governance in the public sector in SNNPRS, Gurage Zone, Butajira Town. Good governance enhances considerable participation of community and equal without differentiation in their public sector affair. It facilitates public sector enhancement of any nation in the Town and also contributed for peaceful existence and coordination of the community for their common goal. This paper intended to study the assessment of good governance in the public sector of in the study area.The data obtained from both primary and secondary data; the primary data was collected through interview and questionnaires, the secondary data was collected from documents and references. The researchers used simple random sampling techniques and also used purposive sampling techniques to select the respondents and both descriptive and correlational methods of data analysis to analyses the data gathered from the respondents. Based on the result of the study good governance has different role; the improvement of basic infrastructure and the provision of good and service of the Town, enhance the participation of private sector, civil society and community as a whole in the public sector activities in the study area. It was found that to achieving good governance in the public sector the Butajira Town provides both financial and technical support for vulnerable section of the society and changes their public sector status. Thus, good governance could improve public sector activities and protect the prosperity all individuals’ communities by initiating them to work hard. The researchers also recommended some mechanism to reduce the existing problem of good governance in the public sector of Butajira Town.
