Abstract

Background:Acuterespiratoryinfectionisleadingkillerofchildrenunder5yearsoage.ClinicalbaseddatainEthiopiaindicatethatacuterespiratoryinfectionisresponsiblefor35-ofoutpatientattendant .Studies doneonmotherssignandsymptomofshowsthatmostmothersdidnotrecognizethesignofcoughanddifficultofbreathingincludingkeysignofpneumonia.Objective:Toassessknowledge,attitudeandPracticeofMothersonCaringChildrenwithAcuteRespiratoryInfectionamongmothersattendingUnder5unitsatAtatprimaryhospitalMethod:Institutionalbasedcrosssectionalstudywasconductedtoassessknowledge,attitudeandpracticeofmothersoncaringchildrenwithARIatAtatpimaryhospital.ThestudywasconductedfromMay25June25,2202amongmotherswhohavechildrenofunder5yearswhovisitedthehospitalduringthedatacollectionperiodwasincluded.Atotalof327motherswhohavechildrenofunder5yearswereselectedbysystematicrandomsamplingmethod.Everytwomotherswereapproachedandinvitedtoparticipateinthestudyuntiltherequiredsamplesizereached.Datawerecollected throughface-to-faceinterviewwithstructuredquestionnaire.ThedatawereenteredtoEpidataversion3.1andanalyzedusingSPSSversion20.Result:Amongtheincludedmothersmorethanhalf,56.3%ofthemwithinagegroup25-34yearsthenthestudyindicatedthat64.5%ofrespondentshavegoodknowledge(95% CI59.169 7%)ontheotherhand,50%ofrespondentshadgoodpractice(95%CI44.9%-56.0%)onARIand57.8%respondenthadfavorableattitude(95%CI57.8%55.2%).Conclusionandrecommendation:Thestudyrevealssufficientknowledge,attitudeandpracticeofmotherstowardsARI.Betterliteracyratehasapositiveinfluenceontheknowledgeattitudeandpracticeofmother.Healtheducation programsformothersininpatientandoutpatientclinicneedstobeemphasizedbyprofessionalandconcerned
