Abstract

The aims of the study was to analyze the impact of social media on the students’ academic performance in the case of first and second year English language and literature students of Wolkite University. To achieve this, descriptive research method was used. Subjects were drown from Wolkie University first and second year English language and literature students using comprehensive non - random sampling techniques. Both quantitative and qualitative research methods were used for this study to the reliability and validity of the research. Research findings showed that great number of first and second year English language and literature students of Wolkite University, had access to the internet. To this end, the researcher recommended that sites should be created for educational purposes as well. This is to create a balance between social networking and academic activities of students to avoid setbacks in the academic performance of the students
