Abstract
To survive, organizations must respond and adjust to the social, economic, political, and
environmental changes that occur. Unfortunately, in most organizations especially in the higher
educational institutions, even strategic plans are carried out they are not implemented properly
due to lack of appreciation and knowledge of the effective implementation of strategic planning
on organization growth The main objective of this study was to examine the effective
implementation of strategic planning in the higher educational institutions. To achieve the
objectives 49 questionnaires distributed to full information about department head of the Wolkite
University. Descriptive type of research design has been employed to conduct the study. The
researcher has used primary and secondary source of data and questionnaires and interviews
would be as data collection methods for primary source. Descriptive type data analysis was used
for analysis. Higher educational institutions face challenges in the implementation of their
strategic plans due to the long processes of approval, release of funds, shortage of skilled in
specialized areas, and lack of commitment from officials. The overriding conclusion is that,
Strategic Planning is effective and positively affects the growth of higher educational
institutions. Therefore the implementation of strategic plans should well monitor to ensure
adherence to set of systems and procedures
