Abstract
The overall objective of this study was to examine the impacts of gender based discrimination on
the academic performance of the female student in the case of wolkite University College of
social science and humanities. To conduct this research the researcher was used cross sectional
study design and it used mixed research approach. The study was also used both probability and
non-probability sampling techniques, for probability sampling technics the researcher was used
Simple random sampling, and from non-probability sampling techniques purposive sampling
was employed. Through simple random sampling method total of 62 female students were
selected from Wolkite University particularly from social sciences and humanity students. To
conduct this research two data collection tools were employed for the effectiveness of the results
which are interview and questionnaire. The baseline finding revealed that the off campus factors
that affect female students academic performance include female back ground, economic
problems and the rule of brokers to initiate female students to work as sex workers. As a
recommendation the university should create means of paying special attention to students from
law socio-economic back grounds, students with disabilities HIV/AIDS and jointed the university
from rural areas.
