THE SOCIO-ECONOMIC CAUSE and CONSEQUENCE of YOUTH UNEMPLOYMENT: THE CASE OF WOLISO TOWN

Abstract

This study set out to examine the cause and consequences of youth unemployment in Woliso town.To this end an endeavor was made to identify the main factors responsible for youth unemployment and its consequences. A mixed research approach was employed to collect data pertinent for this study purpose. The secondary data were collected from books, electronic website, magazine and related materials and the primary data were collected through interview and survey. The sampling technique that was used in this study was purposive sampling technique from non-probability and simple random sampling from probability sampling. There are number of causes for youth unemployment like rural urban migration, population growth, miss guided system of education, and gender related issues. The finding of the study indicated that educated youth unemployment have many consequences. Generally, Ethiopia has been affected by sever socioeconomic problem. The situation is the same to Woliso town. Youth unemployment is the one which has a huge impact on the well-being of unemployed youths. Youth unemployment has many consequences like legal, social, economic, and psychological on youths. Finally these consequences are social and, economic consequence as the major consequence.Generally, Ethiopia has been affected by sever socioeconomic problem. The situation is the same to Woliso town. Youth unemployment is the one which has a huge impact on the well-being of unemployed youths. The mechanism by which government uses to solve the unemployment problem such as organizing the unemployed youths to engage in group business like voluntary association and Providing credit service Organizing youths to do group business Providing skill trainings to enable them to create their own jobs and business
