Abstract
This research examines the human resource development (HRD) practices at Wolkite University, with the aim of identifying their strengths, limitations, and alignment with institutional goals. As universities play a pivotal role in national development, effective HRD practices are essential for enhancing the skills, motivation, and performance of employees, thereby contributing to overall organizational success. Wolkite University, like many Ethiopian higher education institutions, faces a dynamic environment that requires adaptive and forward-thinking HRD strategies. The study employs a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews to provide a comprehensive understanding of HRD practices. Key areas of investigation include the availability and effectiveness of training and development programs, career advancement opportunities, performance management systems, and initiatives to enhance employee engagement and satisfaction. Participants include academic and administrative staff across various departments, ensuring diverse perspectives are captured. The study concludes by providing evidence-based recommendations to enhance HRD practices, including increased investment in professional development, better integration of HRD initiatives with institutional priorities, and improved mechanisms for monitoring and evaluation. These recommendations aim to support the university's vision of achieving academic excellence and institutional sustainability. By addressing these critical aspects, the research contributes to the broader discourse on HRD in Ethiopian universities and provides actionable insights for policymakers and practitioners seeking to optimize human resource strategies in higher education.
