SOCIO-ECONOMIC IMPACTS OF ROAD TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS ON VICTIMS IN CASE OF WOLKITE TOWN

Abstract

The study was designed to explore socio economic impact of road traffic accident takes thousands of lives every day around the world. Millions of these accident victims are left with disabilities. The heaths, psychological and social impact of the accident are also tremendous. Our study was differ from the previous researchers by including the socio-economic impacts of on victims and family causes of road traffic accident and other related issues with regard to this problem. The main objective of this study is to investigate the cause and socio economic impacts of road traffic accidents. When we conducted this research we have used a cross sectional research design. The researcher used non probability because the researcher utilized this technique the who knows the case in researchers used purposive sampling and snow ball sampling and the researchers was selected 30 respondents. The findings revealed that combination of factors contributed for the incidence of the RTAs in wolkite town; poor road design, violation of traffic rule, for only one street line road and these factors onward have had impact on socio economic activities of the society and individual in the town. Countermeasures that should be carried out by concerned bodies should be starting from creating awareness through education campaigns, improving road design and enforcement of the traffic regulation of the town, though rates of RTAs have multifaceted effects on pedestrian and the communities’ little attention is given to the problem, despite the increase of road crashes from time to time.
