Abstract
The study was conducted in Cheha Woreda, Gurage zone on assessment of milk production and marketing system. The study was done by taking of 60 households by random sample after purposive selections of three kebeles and 20 respondents from each kebeles. Questioners was developed and interviewed used for primary and secondary data collection. And the constraints associated to its milk production in Cheha district. In the study area was production system isextensive (54.7%), intensive (17.3%) and semi intensive (28.0%). And their marketing system is informal. The major cattle breed kept by farmers was local breed and cross breed zebu X Localbreed. The major feed resources in the study area were natural pasture (41.7%), crop residue (23.3%) and agro industrial by product (6.6%). The major constraints to milk production in the study area were feed shortage (45.1%), disease prevalence (15.6%) and (1.54 litter low milk yield of local cow. The major constraint of milk marketing in the study area were season, access to market distance, transportation problem. Thus strong extension works is needed and create awareness about the importance of dairy and dairy products and their values.
