Abstract
The main purpose of the study was to assess performance appraisal practice and its role on
employee’s performance in Dashen bank Wolkite main branch. In addition to that, it
determined methods of performance evaluation used by the organization. In order to
achieve this objective, census types of sampling techniques was used by considering all 28
employees working for the main branch of the bank .To achieve the objectives of the study
data were collected from both primary and secondary sources through questionnaires and
interview. Data were organized by using tables and percentage as well as descriptive
analyses methods. Performance review of the company has a problem of evaluating all in a
single dimension mainly comes due to ratters problem. Generally the outcome of the
research confirmed that the performance appraisal practice of Dashen bank has problems
and weaknesses that need to be improved. Since it needs improvement, it is better to create
awareness about performance appraisal practice and its role on personal and
organizational development
