Abstract

The aim of this study is to identify the impacts of parenting style on academic achievement and of WKU students. To conduct this study a descriptive and correlation research design was employed. Sample students of Educational & Behavioral Science and Law School students of Wolkite University were selected by using simple random sampling. A sample of 80 was administered with the questionnaire and 50% response rate was achieved. The data collected was analyzed with the aid of descriptive statistical techniques such as mean score. More so, correlation analysis was used to establish the relationship between parenting style and students’ academic achievement. The correlation result shows Authoritative Parenting Style was positively correlated to student academic achievement with a Pearson’s Correlation Coefficient of r = 0. 878 and at level of significance of 0.036, was statistically significant as the p-value is less than 0.05. This relationship was strong. This indicates that Authoritative Parenting Style has highly influencing student academic achievement among Educational & Behavioral Science and Law School students of Wolkite University
