Abstract
The purpose of this study is to determine the Effect of using social media on academic
achievement of students among Wolkite University College of Education and Behavioural
Studies Department of pedagogical Science, Psychology, Education Planning and Management
on department students. In this study Descriptive statics of frequency and percentage, where
used to analyse the data, the Effect of using social media on academic achievement, the Effect of
using social media on time management and while inferential statics (T-test) is used to see
Gender difference of social media on students. Which is conducting 190 population from those
taken 39 participants 23 where females and 16 males who selected by using stratified sampling
technique. It has been identified students used social media more for entertainment than
educational use. In addition, it is identified that students used social media while lecture is going
on, while doing their assignment and while study side by side. The research findings showed that
a great number of students in Wolkite University are used to social media. To this end the
researcher recommended that students learn to manage their time properly, use social media
sites more for academic use than entertainments, students should be monitored by their teachers
how to use social media
