Abstract
The main purpose of the present study was to assess the factors that affect the students’ motivation in the
practical class of sport science department in Wolkite University. The aim of this study was to understand
the relationship between motivation and practical performance. It also attempts to assess ways to increase
the motivation and active participation of the students in practical classes in sport science department.
Students undertaken the courses of study in the department of sport science are the population of the
study. Out of 37 students from 3rd year students, ninth (19) students were taken as a sample by using
simple random sampling technique. The data collecting instrument was questionnaires which were
administered for both sexes of the sample and teachers in the department. The collected data were
thoroughly analyzed, and interpreted .Finally conclusions were made and recommendations were
forwarded. Highly motivated students show good practical performance. The higher the motivation the
better the student’s practical performance
