Abstract

This paper aims to examine the major Role of women's participation in income-generatingactivities in Haru woreda, Oromia region. To carry out this study both primary and secondarydata was collected and analyzed. Randomly selected 80 households were the source of primarydata for this study. Secondary data was collected from the review of related works of literature. A binary logistic regression econometric model was implemented to identify major Roleof women's participation in income-generating activities. The result of the logit model reveals that, Women in the study area are not allowed by their husbands to participate in highincomeearning activities. They are considered as a housewife and the only husband is expectedtoparticipate in high income-generating activities due to the local customs. As a result, somewomen participate in small business activities like agricultural production, trade andservicesectors. The output of the model indicates that women's education and access to credit werepositively and significantly af ecting the women participation in income generating activitieswhereas family size, market distance, and age are significantly and negatively af ectingthedependent variable. Land ownership and access to extension services also showed positivesignificant ef ects. Based on the finding of the study, the researchers have conclusionandrecommendations.
