Abstract

In this thesis work, we have studied the impact of a tunable dielectric core on refractive index and group velocity in a small cylindrical metal/dielectric composite. By varying the dielectric constant of the core material, we gain signi cant control over the refractive index and group velocity of the composite. In order to compare results, we have brie discussed the optical properties of a composite with cylindrical Nano inclusions in a dielectric core host matrix. The theoretical calculation and numerical results show that increasinthe dielectric constant of the core results in an increase in both the refractive index andgroup velocity of the composite. One of the optical properties of the composite studied in this work is the refractive index factor of the dielectric core inclusion. The result weget shows that a metal-covered dielectric core a ects the real and imaginary parts of the refractive index. There are maximum and minimum values of refractive indices with varying dielectric core sizes of small cylindrical metals. In this study, another main point of study was to determine the group velocity of light wave packets that propagate in the overstated composites. Depending on the core's dielectric function, there are minimum values of near the resonant frequency and maximum values of the group velocity for the inclusion ‘score dielectric function. Our results suggest that the use of tunable dielectric materials can enable the development of new types of high-performance optical devices with enhanced functionality and performance
