Abstract
The purpose of this study was to explore the factors that affect women empowerment in household
decision making . It also aimed to assess the impact of education on women empowerment, the
consequence of access to credit on women empowerment,how employment opportunity affect women
empowerment and how socio cultural factors affect women empowerment.The study adoptedcross
sectional research design . Both qualitative and quantitative research methods were used to
achieve the stated objectives of the study.Data was collected from primary and secondary
sources. , Both open ended and close ended question was administered to collect data from
92 respondents from purposively selected kebele. Qualitative data was collected by using key
informant interviewand in-depth interview and the quantitative data was collected by using
questionnaires. The study employed both probability and non-probability sampling technique, to
select sample respondents, the researchers have employed simple random sampling technique and in
case of non-probability researchers used purposive sampling technique. The collected qualitative
data was analyzed by using thematic analysis and the collected quantitative data was analyzed
through descriptive statistical analysis.The study found that More educated women have a
chance to participate in household decision making. If there is Higher level of education
there is greater women participation in household decision making.Access to credit also open
chance to control household resource and assets.Furthermore, socialization has its own
influence on the empowerment of women in household decision making In line with the
findings obtained from this study, recommendations to respective governmental, NGOs and
concerned bodies have been forwarded.women should be engaged in education, have get
employment opportunity, access to credit and change the traditional way of thinking of the
society the women to participate in household decision making
