Abstract

The general objective of this study was to assess men involvement in family planning in wolkite town. The study used mixed method approach, for quantitative method a close ended questionnaire was used and for qualitative method key informant in depth interviews were conducted to collected data. for this study the sampling techniques used non probability sampling which is purposive sampling techniques for key informant and probability sampling techniques, type of which are simple random sampling techniques were used to selected. From total married couples in the specific year of lives menehariya kebele were selected 172 selected married men and 2 key informants were participated. The result of the survey data 105(70percent) of married men they know about family planning who belongs to 25-35 age group than other age, and the other present 45(30%) does not know about family planning the reason for the ones is religion. it means does not said that all men know about family planningthe engage in with his wives 61(40.6) of married men they get the information about family planning through mass media, 108(72 percent) of married men the use of family planning to spacing between children, 105(70percent) of married men using contraceptive methods which injection. Married men agreed on benefit of him in involvement on family for all (wives husband and children) and this effect has been a positive impact. The result from the key informant the mostly the men do not come with her but it has a many advantage when he come with her they get a knowledge about family planning and also important to understand his wives because this family planning method they have some a side effect. The need to include men who require joint spousal decisions is critical in achieving key reproductive health indicators. other researches also indicated Low involvement of males in family planning use is one of the contributing factors for low contraceptive use in Ethiopia and also wolkite town specifically menehariya kebele. Our recommendation is based on studies developed test messaging specifically for men disseminate information, men should be encouraging their wives, and involving men as well as women in promoting family communication. Understand the men better attend they health center. Economy also has an effect on family planning due to limited family size to give the treatment for children
