dc.description.abstract | The study was conducted at Yeferezye kebele to assess of the challenges and prospects of land rehabilitation practices with specific objectives to identify major causes of land degradation including population growth ,expansion of agriculture to forests and marginal lands, poverty, land ownership problems which are related to land tenure and government policy, political instability and land administration, overgrazing and inappropriate agriculture, which were existed in the area, to know propose possible strategies and opportunities for better land rehabilitation process. The study identify the major challenges and shortcoming of land rehabilitation practices including Community Engagement and Education, Soil Health Improvement, and Agroforestry and Reforestation. In order to achieve the objective of the study, both primary and secondary data were generated by employing qualitative and quantitative data. By considering Yamane formula 89 household heads were selected from kebele by using simple random sampling as it is believed that the households are similar with respect to the characteristics that influence the research output. The study recommends include Awareness Creation by Organizations, Expansion of Extension Services, Farmer Participation in Planning and Implementation, and Active Involvement of Natural Resource Management Professionals. The findings of the study indicated that limited labor availability the technology use are major challenges encountering the land rehabilitation practices in effective, high cost of maintenance. Lack of knowledge, topography, soil conditions, high rainfall, poor vegetation coverage, poor monitoring and evaluation poor implementation and poor training on way. The process of analysis of the study was carried out using qualitative description and quantitative analysis. The quantitative data was analyzed using frequency and percentage when appropriate. The qualitative data was discussed to substantiate the study. After collecting data both quantitative (descriptive statistics) and qualitative data analysis was carried out and the result was presented using table and figure. The study concludes the farmer responses reflected a strong awareness of the challenges they faced and a commitment to improving land management practices, even amidst significant barriers. | |
