Abstract
Factors that influence the academic achievement of students should be addressed to improve their
academic achievement. This study aimed to determine the relationship between parenting styles
and academic achievement a case of Wolkite town, Guraghe zone preparatory schools. The
study conducted in Wolkite town, Guraghe zone from June 15- June 20/2013. Sample budget
selected from Preparatory schools by using systematic random sampling.
Closed ended data collection Questionnaire that administered to selected students was used. the
data obtained from different sources through different data gathering instruments are tallied,
tabulated and the frequency counts are changed to percent and correlated coefficient are computer
The descriptive analysis data help to get the actual practice of relationship between parenting style
on academic achievement in Wolkite town. The response obtained from questionnaire correlated
with grade 11th student’s achievement. Correlation research method was used to measure
importing the of relationship between parenting style and academic achievement of students. So
if the strong positive linear relationship between variables the value of r was close to 1. If there
is a strong negative linear relationship between the variable (between parenting style and academic
achievement) the value of r would be close to -1.
This study was important to the students to improve their academic achievement which helps them
for joining higher institution and also their future. The study also helps School management and
parents to avoid poor academic performance.
