Abstract

Fertilizer use is crucial for raising food crop production so as to keep up with the demand from rapidly growing population. Adoption of fertilizer one of the most promising ways to reduce food insecurity in Ethiopia. However, adoptions of these fertilizer are constrained by various factors. This study examined the factors’ of farmer adoption fertilizer 90 sample households) selected from 2kebeles in Muhor na Aklil woreda . were assess the determinants of inorganic fertilize adoption and examine the extent of inorganic fertilizer adoption by farm households. The research has been used both Quantitative and qualitative method of data Analysis, primary and secondary source of data for the accuracy of information A Semi structured interview method of data collection was employed to collect primary data from smallholder farmers . Sampling techniques were employed for this study was involved multi stage sampling; because three or four stages were used in the study area during conducting the research. There are different determinants determined adoptions of fertilizer. These are economic social and institutional. extension agent are institutional deter 8 identified explanatory variables 4 of them significantly determined adoption of fertilizer; such as intensity of fertilizer, education level of the household, total farm size and sex of the household head age contact. The results of the econometric model indicated that the relative influence of different variables on probability of adoption of fertilizer. Sex of the house hold, education level, total farm size and intensity of fertilizer, were affected adoption positively. As the logit model indicates sex of the household had positive and significant influence on the adoption of fertilizer at 5% significance level. Hence, sex of household head was hypothesized to increase a farmer's adoption of fertilizer. As the logit model indicates, total farm size of the households had positive and significant impact on the adoption of fertilizer at 10% significance level
