Item n Assessment of Survival Strategies and Situation of Beggars: In Case of Wolkite Town.(wolkite universty, 2022-04) Aklilu PetrosThis paper assesses the phenomena of the survival strategies and situation of beggars in Wolkite town. In the absence of any means of livelihood, many people were driven to begging; some temporarily, some were permanently. Within this research, the researchers use qualitative research approach and cross sectional research design in order to reach the data. Today as a result, begging became means of livelihood in urban area for hundreds of the people in Wolkite town; it is one of the most readily visible social problems especially in the ceremonial days of the Ethiopian Orthodox religious Church. Like most of the socioeconomic problems begging are one of the social problems and we have no much knowledge on this dimensions; little has been done on the problem of the beggary. In Wolkite, similar with other towns of the country (Ethiopia), beggars with different survival strategies and existence of large number of beggars is much more available or experienced. Beggars are engaged in such like activities because of economic and social problems of factors. Beggars are given the lowest statuses in the social system in the world in general and in Wolkite town in particular. They suffer from challenges that threaten their life while they are begging, they face another challenges like expose to sunstroke, wind blow, rain strike, ostracism, stigmatization. And the future aspiration of beggars is different from beggars t beggars and most beggars need of vocational workshop areas, as well as especially mothers need their children to be safe by government and NGOs.
