Abstract
This research aims to investigate the practices and challenges of women's empowerment in Gedebano,
Gutazer Welene Woreda, and Central Ethiopia. A mixed-methods approach was employed, involving
quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews to gather comprehensive data on the status of women's
empowerment across various dimensions. A total of 148 women participated in the data collection,
selected through a purposive sampling method that focused on women from diverse socio-economic
backgrounds to ensure a comprehensive representation of experiences and challenges faced in the
community. The results indicate that while there have been some advancements in education and
political representation; significant barriers persist due to entrenched cultural norms, economic
limitations, and inadequate political representation. The findings highlight the urgent need for targeted
interventions to enhance women's empowerment. In conclusion, empowering women is essential not
only for achieving gender equality but also for fostering sustainable development in the region.
Collaborative efforts among policymakers, community leaders, and civil society organizations are
crucial to creating an inclusive environment that enables women to thrive and contribute meaningfully
to their communities.
