Abstract
The main objective of this study was to assess & analyze the challenges and prospects of
Community Based Health Insurance (CBHI) implementation in the rural area of Ethiopia;
particularly in Mihur Aklil district, Gurage Zone of Central Ethiopia Regional state. The scope
of the study was limited to CBHI members who had been enrolled on CBHI schemes before
2021(at least two years experienced members). Mixed research approaches have been employed
to gather data from respondents. The study used discriptive research design beacause it focused
on describing & showing the what, why and when of the actual CBHI challnges and prospects in
the study area.Simple random sampling technique was adopted after multistage clustering of the
woreda kebeles by two agro ecological categories & performance criteria. The quantitative data
has been analyzed and presented using descriptive statistics such as table, percent and graphs
and multiple linear regeression models was used to show the relation ship between the
independent and dependent variables using SPSS verstion 23 software in chapter four. Outcomes
on inefficient utilization of the available resources demand side factors & supplyside
implementation challenges were discussed as the major findings of the study. In addition
prospects of implementing CBHI program in the district were explored. Finally conclusions and
recommendations on implication of the research have been discussed by addressing the stake
holders, policy makers and implementers.
