    ASSESSMENT OF THE ROLE OF USING DIFFERENT LANGUAGES IN NEWS COVERAGE: THE CASE OF WOLKITE FM RADIO 89.2

    This study presents assessment of the role of using different languages in news coverage of Wolkite FM radio. The study employed qualitative and quantitative approach to analyze and interpreted the data gathered through interview, focus group discussion and questionnaires. The researcher motivated to reveal the role of multi lingual media in news coverage. Media particularly, radio is an instrument of communication that has percolated to all the state of the diverse Ethiopia society. Its position has been consolidated through history as a regular companion and source of information and entertainment. Its affordability, accessibility and non-reliance on costly resource have ensured its presence almost all households. It is one the few or rather the only medium communication where information dissemination is still primarily for entertaining, education and for the sake of information. The result of this study revealed that the role of using multi languages in a news media have a significant role in addressing wider audience due to accessibility of information in indigenous languages
