Use of Waste Glass as a Partial Replacement of Coarse Aggregate and Decorative Tile
(WOLKITE UNIVERSITY, 2020-12) Aregahngn Achayehu; Masresha Abebe; Masresha Abebe; Frezer Eshetu; Meskerm Zerihun; Selamnesh Asegd
This research was carried out to investigate the use waste glass as partial replacement of coarse aggregate for structural concrete and decorative purpose for production oftiles. The study used laboratory test for concrete making material (fine aggregates, coarse aggregates and recycled crushed glass). Concrete mix design was prepared for C25 class of concrete using ACI mix design procedure. The coarse aggregate in each grade of concrete was replaced by recycled crushed glass a 5%, 15% and 30% by weight. The control mix without incorporation of recycled crushed glass was prepared which was used for reference for comparison of test result with those specimens produced by partial replacement. Generally 4 concrete mixes was prepared including the control mix for C25 class of concrete. Slump test was conducted for each grade of fresh concrete. The properties of hardened concrete were studied by conducting compressive strength. The compressive strength was carried out at the 3rd, 7thdays.Furthermore, terrazzo concrete was prepared by partial replacing coarse aggregates at 5% and 30% with recycled crushed glass. The test result obtained by partial replacement were compared with result of the control mix. In line with it the results obtained by concrete specimens produced by partial replacement were slightly greater than that of the control mix. The general results reveals that recycled crushed glass can be used for structural concrete and for decorative tile purpose.
